Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among has rewarded the Uganda National women football team, the Crested Cranes with a cash prize after they emerged winners of the CECAFA Championship.
Fazila Ikwaput once and Sandra Nabweteme twice scored as Uganda beat Burundi 3-1 to emerge victorious at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Saturday.
Among handed over UGX 20M in cash to the newly Crowned Crowned football Queens of Central and East Africa as a token of appreciation for putting up a good fight to see that the trophy stays at home. She handed them the cash so they can ‘buy some water’ to drink after a two long weeks of hardwork.

“We can not fail to have money for women sports when I am the Speaker. The money from the budget to be read next week, part of it will be ring fenced for women football,” the speaker stated, as she pledged more support for the Crested Cranes.
National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary, Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel while congratulating the Crested Cranes was also full of praises for the players and technical team alike.
“I want to thank the Technical team of the Crested Cranes for leading us to glory. You have justified why this sport (football) needs more funding. It is the most popular sport in Uganda with huge following,” Ogwel said.
FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo as well confirmed that the federation will give UGX 5M to each member of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s team that led Uganda to victory.
