The Uganda National Teachers Association (UNATU) has called upon its members to sit down in protest of unfairness in allocation of salaries.

Apparently, While presenting the national budget on Tuesday, shs 495 billion was allocated for enhancement of salaries of medical workers, scientists, and science teachers as the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija announced while presenting the national budget on Tuesday.

Now, Mr. Baguma Filbert Bates, the UNATU General Secretary has restated that teachers are all equally important and deserve to be heard fairly.

“We here by inform all members in every school and Education Institution that the Industrial action against discriminatory salary enhancement begins on Wednesday 15th, June 2022,” Baguma announced.

“STAY HOME AND MOBILISE OTHERS TO ACT. All teachers Matter and therefore deserve an increment! BECAUSE WE ARE, THE NATION IS,” The UNATU notice further highlighted.

The teachers want government to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) without discrimination as UNATU and other public service unions were promised.

They signed a CBA with the government that highlighted plans for salary enhancement across all categories of civil servants for the financial years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. They also agreed that negotiations for FY 2020/2021 and FY 2022/2023 would go on as agreed in the agreement.
