Paint manufacturers Kansai Plascon have donated paint worth Shs 30million to Uganda Martyrs Hospital, Rubaga to support the hospital in its construction projects.

The paint was handed over to Catholic Church leaders and Rubaga Hospital officials on Tuesday afternoon by Kansai Plascon Managing Director Santosh Gumte who was escorted by other staffers from the paint company.

Mr. Gumte said that the company will also provide all the needed labour including professional painters to assist the hospital in carrying out the painting job.

“We are delighted to join the Catholic Church in their community projects especially those that have a direct impact on individuals living around them. Our paint donation to RubagaHospital is an appreciation to the Church for the work so far well done and our commitment to continue partnering with them to better our society,” Gumte said.

Rubaga Hospital, the oldest Catholic hospital in Uganda has been providing medical services to the Ugandan community since it was opened in 1899 by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa.

On top of providing medical services, the hospital also functions as the teaching hospital for the Lubaga Health Training Institution, helping groom medical personel who go on to serve the country in different hospitals.

“This contribution is in line with our CSR commitment and our company values including integrity, respect, customer focus and innovation. It is one of the ways that we use to give back to our clients who have supported us over the years to make us Uganda’s leading paint manufacturers,” Gumte added.

On his part, Dr. Julius Luyimbazi the Executive Director for Rubaga Hospital thanked Kansai Plascon for the good thought saying that this will boost the efforts that are being made by the hospital so far.

He revealed that the hospital is taking on a number of other projects that they will be unveiling soon, calling on other companies to take the example of Kansai Plascon and come render their support to the hospital.

Kampala Archbishop Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemwogerere who also attended the event lauded Kansai Plascon for being a good friend of the Catholic Church and for all their efforts in supporting community projects.

“We have seen the different initiatives that you have taken to support the Catholic Church across the country and we really appreciate you for that. As humans, we are not able to pay you back for your good work but the Lord will reward you in his own ways,” Archbishop Ssemwogerere said.

“What we can do is pray for God’s blessing over your business and all your workers that God keeps you safe and continues to bless and reward you more,” he added.

Rubaga Hospital offers a range of services including pediatrics, radiology, laboratory, maternity, immunization, general surgery, internal medicine, orthopedics and operating rooms, inpatient, outpatient services among others.

It attends to over 160,000 outpatients annually, averaging 450 outpatients daily. On average, 17,000 in patients are admitted every year and 6,832 babies are born at the hospital.

Patients served by Rubaga hospital come from Kampala District, Wakiso District, Mpigi District and Mukono District. Due to its status, the hospital also receives a number of other patients from across the country on referral basis.
