All is not well with Asiku Abdulmutalib, Chairman LC5 Yumbe District. Asiku is in hot soup for delaying to distribute the Parish Development Model funds given to the District aimed at improving livelihoods of the locals.

On Monday 27, Asiku, was doing his role as usual, giving his remarks and updating top officials on what the locals need to thrive in whatever they do and it didn’t go well when he informed on the current status of PDM in the District.

Asiku while delivering his speech, started on well, highlighting how the locals of Yumbe are suffering, with the whole region being well known as the second poorest region in Uganda after Karamoja region. He later on mentioned that at Yumbe, they have not been able to distribute the PDM money to the intended beneficiaries due to some delays including training among others.

Hon. Evelyn Anite, The State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization being one of the key personalities who successfully delivered the PDM funds to the region in a bid to see light in the region, got provoked and had to act. Anite, the iron lady, as she is known to many, gave Asiku all the time he needed to complete his stage and when her time came, she released venom, attacking Asiku and all the district leadership for failing to implement such a simple task which according to her will go along way in helping the locals at grassroot levels.

“I want to assure you my people that these are the things our visionary leader President Museveni is always bothered about, he wants to see that no one is left in poverty, a reason he introduced PDM to help improve people’s lives right from the parish level and you find these jokers taking their time to implement such simple tasks.

Hon. Evelyn Anite ordering for the immediate release of PDM money to the locals in Yumbe.

Honestly, how difficult is it to distribute the PDM money to the locals? why has it taken you long to address it even when you know our people are poor and suffering. no no, this is not acceptable.”

Anite was quick to task Asiku to explain to the people what is exactly going on with the PDM cash. Asiku on responding to Anite, mentioned that they still need more time to prepare themselves to train the locals on how to better utilize the PDM money.

Kampala sqoop established that Asiku’s team has only trained 5 sub-counties out of the 26 total sub-counties in Yumbe.

After carefully listening to what she termed as very loose and lame excuse from Asiku who later on called the the District Production Officer to further explain the delays of the funds, Anite ordered the immediate distribution of the money ahead of President Museveni’s visit to the region in April 11th 2023.

“I don’t want to listen to anything from you anymore, this is not your money , it is government money meant for the locals, i want you to distribute it to the people starting tomorrow or else you are bound to big trouble. These people have to start getting PDM immediately before the Presidential visit here. This is not a request by the way, its an order,” she concluded.

The table below shows Uganda’s top five poorest regions;

1 Karamoja region 74%
2 West Nile region 42%
3 Lango and Acholi 35%
4 Eastern region 24.7%
5 Busoga 24.3%
