Hundreds of people honored and turned up for the inaugural Grace Villa Marathon held in Kabale District.

According to the organizers, Grace Villa marathon was held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Grace Villa, a home for vulnerable girls located in Kabale.

Participants from Uganda and the international community united in solidarity to help the girls’ home achieve its vision of constructing a resource center to enhance the skills and opportunities for these vulnerable girls.

The marathon featured three categories: 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers. Leading the event was Bishop Amos Magezi, representing the North West Ankole diocese.

He not only prayed for the participants but also took on the role of the chief runner. With a heartfelt prayer session, he encouraged the participants and sent them off on their running journey.

In a fiercely competitive 21-kilometer category, Louis Niwagaba emerged the victor, with Edson Katureebe claiming second place. Barnabas Mugume triumphed in the 10-kilometer race.

The 5-kilometer race mainly comprised corporate participants, some of whom chose to walk their way to the finish line, all contributing to the noble cause.

The participants commended the organizers for conceiving an event that not only showcased their talents but also allowed them to make a difference in the lives of these deserving girls.

The organizers expressed their delight at the success of the first edition and announced that the Grace Villa Marathon would become an annual event, continuing to bring people together in support of this meaningful cause.

As a token of appreciation, the marathon winners were rewarded with mattresses.

Additionally, on the same day, the Total Energies Kabale team emerged victorious in a mini-soccer league that was also organized to benefit Grace Villa.
