Indian Legendary Singer Abhijeet Thrills Revelers at Charity Concert

On Friday, hundreds of the Indians living in Uganda filled up Uganda Manufacture’s Association (UMA) multipurpose hall to attend a charity concert featuring Indian legendary playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya.

Organized by Bengali Association Uganda (BAUL) and sponsored by the largest paint maker, Plascon Uganda, this VIP concert whose proceeds will go to building classroom blocks at Kitante primary school, Kampala lived up to its billing, offering exciting performances the revelers enjoyed.

The concert was kicked off with opening speech from the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda Upender Singh Rawat followed by a curtain rising performance by a singer called Debjani who put the put the crowd in the mood, ready to welcome the main act of the night.

Daniel Kayongo, Brand Manager Plascon Paint said that the company will continue to support the Indian community in Uganda because of their importance to the country.

Kayongo also added that this wasn’t the first time Plascon has sponsored Indian events, as the company has been doing so with other events like the annual Holi Festival, and one last year when the Indian Association in Uganda celebrated 101 years among others.

Dressed in a glittering navy-blue coat, shirt and pants, the singer took to the stage as the waiting crowd ululated at a few minutes to 10 PM and started off his live performance that saw some revelers sing along and vibe to his songs.

He also had a time to interact with the attendees, talking to them in the Hindi language and cracking some jokes. Mid his performance, he was joined on stage by a singer called Joy whom he (Abhijeet) gave a little time to perform a few of his songs, before resuming his showcase.

The Bengali Association Uganda (BAUL) is a close-knit community of individuals and families who share a deep connection to the rich and diverse culture of Bengal, India. Despite their geographical distance from their ancestral land, they come together to keep the spirit of Bengal alive in the heart of Uganda.
