PostBank Uganda has partnered with adelphi to deliver a three-day hands-on capacity-building program aimed at deepening staff knowledge on global best practices in green finance. The training, which concluded today at Onomo Hotel, Kampala is part of the bank’s strategic efforts to achieve sustainability certification.

The initiative is aligned with the bank’s mission to foster prosperity for Ugandans through high-impact goals such as promoting sustainable financial inclusion, stimulating entrepreneurship, and offering innovative financial services that support economic growth and development.

As part of the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) Green Finance Academy, funded by the European Union Delegation to Uganda and implemented by adelphi, 30 PostBank staff were trained to enhance their understanding of green finance and its role in Uganda’s financial sector.

The training covered key areas such as defining the green finance context, understanding green SMEs, mapping green finance instruments, assessing climate risks and opportunities, Portfolio and target market analysis and designing green finance instruments.

The goal was to equip participants with practical knowledge to effectively deliver finance to environmentally and socially impactful SMEs, helping scale their positive contributions to Uganda’s economy and environment.

Carolyn Andama, Head of Public Sector at PostBank Uganda, praised UGEFA’s role in promoting sustainability through targeted training programs for financial institutions.

“Financial institutions like PostBank can drive real change by channeling capital into sustainable initiatives that address issues such as decarbonization, poverty, and inequality. These efforts contribute directly to the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 agenda,” Said Andama.

She emphasized that aligning banking activities with sustainability trends positions PostBank to tap into emerging markets and attract eco-conscious investors and businesses.

Christine Meyer, Project Lead of UGEFA and Head of Green Entrepreneurship at adelphi, commended PostBank for taking a proactive role in sustainability training.

“We provide tailored training for financial institutions and work collaboratively to channel green finance into Uganda’s SME sector. With partners like PostBank, we can unlock the potential of green SMEs and drive meaningful environmental and social change,” Meyer said.

PostBank’s commitment to sustainable finance is also evident in its recent recognition at the Agricultural Credit Facility (ACF) Awards in June, where it received multiple accolades for its role in boosting agricultural financing and supporting economic development through tailored financial solutions.
