Postbank, which is rebranding to Pearl Bank Uganda, has been awarded the prestigious Sustainability Certification by the European Organization for Sustainable Development (EOSD),demonstrating the Bank’s efforts and commitment to champion sustainable initiatives that are aligned with its overall strategy and purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans. The certificate handover event in Germany was on 25th September 2025.

Based in Germany, EOSD is a globally recognized leader in advancing sustainable development across sectors. The organization is dedicated to developing strategies, programs, and initiatives that embed sustainable growth and responsible practices particularly in the financial sector.

EOSD has worked with institutions worldwide to embed sustainability into their operations, promote best banking practices for social good, and contribute to building resilient economies whilstprotecting the environment.

Through its Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative (SSCI), EOSD sets rigorous, holistic standards that distinguish truly value-driven financial institutions from those that have not fully embraced sustainability. This certification not only recognizes PostBank Uganda’s commitment to responsible banking but also positions the Bank as a leader in sustainable finance within the region.

Commenting on the Sustainability Certificate, Julius Kakeeto, Managing Director of PostBank Uganda, noted that the recognition aligns with the Bank’s five (5) year strategy launched in 2024 to reposition itself as a Purpose led and sustainable business. He emphasized that sustainability is now embedded in the Bank’s strategy, products, services, and operations —enabling the bank to go beyond profits and make a lasting impact on the society, economy, and the environment.

Kakeeto said, “As an indigenous Bank, PostBank is committed to fostering prosperity for Ugandans throughadvancing sustainable financial inclusion and stimulatingentrepreneurship and services. We’re focused on powering SMEs to support economic transformation in the priority sectors, create jobs, and build a high-value economy.

Our digital wallet, Wendi, is at the forefront of drivingsustainable financial inclusion where every Ugandan with a mobile phone can save, invest, pay bills, send and receive money from within and around the world quickly, affordably, and securely.”

Mr. Arshad Rab, CEO of EOSD and Chairman of the Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative, applauded PostBank for being at the forefront of the sustainability conversation and for repurposing its strategy to align with the global sustainability agenda. He noted that more than ever, customers and partners are seeking to associate themselves with impact-driven financial institutions.

This rising demand for purposeful banking is creating opportunities for forward-looking players like PostBank to attract responsible partners, support businesses that champion sustainable practices and most importantly deliver profitability through creating economic value and social good while protecting natural assets.

“The certification for PostBank is proof that profitability and sustainability can move hand in hand,” Arshad said.

In addition to global sustainability certification, in June this year, PostBank was a recipient of five accolades and 11 certificates at the Bank of Uganda’s Agriculture Credit Facility (ACF) and Small Business Recovery Fund (SBRF)award ceremony, including best performing bank under both schemes. The awards reflected the bank’s impactful and inclusive approach to sustainable agricultural financing, a vital contribution to Uganda’s broader development goals.

As the conversation around sustainability gains momentum, PostBank Uganda is positioning itself not just as a participant but as a leader in building a sustainable financial ecosystem that works for people, planet, and prosperity.
