It’s been a hot day at Adrift Uganda in Kangulumira, Kayunga, where the Nyege International Music Festival is happening. Today is Day 2, and the event is full of life, energy, colour, and the unique spirit that has made it one of Africa’s most celebrated cultural festivals.
At a recent press briefing and site visit, Talent Africa Group, the organisers, confirmed they are fully ready to host thousands of revelers for the four-day festival that started on Thursday, 20th November.
This year’s theme is “Ekiggunda Ky’omuliro”, meaning “The Gathering of the Flame”, as the festival celebrates its 10-year anniversary.
Adrift Uganda, located near Kalagala Falls, is the new long-term home for Nyege Nyege. If you are still thinking about attending, here is why you shouldn’t miss it.
1. A One-of-a-Kind Atmosphere
Nyege Nyege is more than a festival. It’s an experience. The Kalagala Falls setting mixes natural beauty with electrifying stages, turning the riverside forest into a lively cultural playground. The atmosphere draws you in the moment you arrive.
2. Music From Everywhere
All five stages namely Ubuntu, Hakuna Kulala Tropical, Sunrise, Portal and Dark Star are alive with DJs, performers, and artistes from across Africa and the world. Whether you love electronic, Afro-fusion, Reggae, Dancehall, Amapiano, EDM, or traditional sounds, there’s a stage for you. Nyege Nyege is unpredictable, you never know what amazing act you will find next.
3. Cultural Fusion at Its Best
Beyond music, the festival celebrates diversity and artistic freedom. You will find dance performances, fashion, visual arts, and unique cross-cultural collaborations you rarely see anywhere else.
4. New Friendships, New Stories
Ask anyone who has attended, and they will tell you that the people make the festival unforgettable. It is easy to connect with others at the riverbank, food stalls, campsite, or dance circles. You will meet people ready to share joy, laughter, and lasting memories.
5. The Stunning Natural Setting
Few festivals in the region offer locations as unique as Nyege Nyege. With the Nile nearby, beautiful river views, and a cool forest atmosphere, it’s perfect for both adventure and relaxation. Whether dancing by the water or relaxing under the trees, the environment makes every moment better.
6. Dedicated Film Stage
For movie lovers, Matatu Film Stage (MFS) has joined with Nyege Nyege to bring a pop-up cinema experience and a 72-hour film challenge to the festival. They’ve set up a “silent cinema” where you can watch bold African films using headphones. This fits the MFS 3rd Edition theme: “Cinema Is Food, But People Are Starving.”
7. Ticket Prices Have Not Increased
For the first time, ticket prices haven’t gone up. In previous years, full festival passes cost up to UGX 250,000 on the final day, and single-day tickets were UGX 100,000 (Friday), UGX 150,000 (Saturday), and UGX 80,000 (Sunday).
This time, tickets remain affordable:
• Full festival pass: UGX 190,000
• Friday: UGX 98,000
• Saturday: UGX 122,000
• Sunday: UGX 80,000
If you love party vibes, have the money, and are free this weekend, pack your bags and head to Adrift Uganda. Don’t miss the vibe.
