Concerned locals of Tubur sub-county in Soroti district have petitioned the office of the Chief Administrative Officer of Soroti District to explain why a motorcycle number LG0043-107 belonging to the government is being used as boda-boda in the area.
An independent investigation carried out by our reporter reveals that the above mentioned motorcycle is being used as boda-boda in Tubur Town Council contrary to the purpose for which it was meant for.
This motorcycle was handed over to Bob Owiny the Deputy Speaker Soroti District Local Government in the financial year 2017/2018 with an aim of improving service delivery but since then the onlookers say he has never been personally rid the motorcycle but instead he hires it out to be used by his friends for boda-boda.
The Ministry of Local Government recently distributed motorcycles to local government leaders to ease transports. But just like Soroti, the effective use has been abused in most of the districts in Uganda.
Locals and some of the boda- boda riders who talked to our reporter say they have been wondering why an equipment belonging to the government has been mismanaged.
“Why is the Soroti district local government not taking any action over the matter yet the motorcycle is being used for personal gain, “they urged.
But Bob Owiny when contacted by our reporter could not accept nor deny the allegations that he was using the motorcycle in question for Boda Boda work.
Owiny said that his brother borrowed it to use for some time back, and said he did not know that he was using it for unmeant purposes, adding he is returning it back to his hands.
However, Luke Lokuda Chief Administrative Officer of Soroti district acknowledged to this publication that his office has been receiving claims of Motorcycles that the government gave out to some Local leaders were being misused, but lacked evidence to take any serious action.
Lokuda says he will repossess the motorcycle from the Deputy Speaker upon confirming that it was being used for personal gain.
