Golfers and golfing enthusiasts braced the early morning Saturday drizzles to take part in the much-anticipated Singleton match- play championship that made a return for its 5th edition at the 71-par Entebbe golf club on Saturday.

After a qualifying the qualifying round of golf on the green, the annual tourney that had taken a hiatus owing to the Covid-19 lockdown made a pompous comeback for  treating golfers to a  Caribbean themed 19th hole after a qualifying round of golf on the greens.

Owing to SOPs instituted to curb the spread of Covid-19, the 19th hole prize giving ceremony had a lower tempo compared to previous editions. The hands had to be sanitized before Singleton sanitized the throats. And this time it was a cocktail that ended at 8pm in time for golfers to return home within curfew hours. In the previous editions, the fun went on till the last man standing.

Nonetheless, it was a fun evening, and the golfers were treated to a Caribbean inspired menu cuisine accompanied with Singleton to wash down the food as guitar maestro Michael Ouma and his band provided the entertainment.

Speaking to guests at the event UBL’s Head of Scotch and Reserve Paul Rwandekeye acknowledged the golfers’ hard work and promised them an exhilarating 5th edition.

“At UBL we are so happy that we get to do this with you once more, it is your sheer hard work, determination and commitment that has moulded the Singleton Challenge into what it is today. I cannot promise you that it is going to be an easy one but be rest assured that it is set to be the most memorable because as the competition becomes tighter, the 19th hole becomes even more exciting. I cannot wait to share those moments with you,” he said.

The first round of the tourney will begin on May 29th and it will go on for the next seven months.
