With over 15 million Ugandan learners stuck home due to the closure of schools as a result of the second wave of Coronavirus, MultiChoice Uganda, has through Pearl Magic and Pearl Magic Prime, its local content channels revamped Learning Time, a slot dedicated to the educating of Ugandan students while in lockdown.

The lessons on Learning Time will run from 9:00 am to 11:00 am every weekday and will cover all the major subjects of the Ugandan syllabus. They will also run from 10 am to 12:00 noon on weekends with the same objective.

On 6th June, 2021, government re-announced closure of all schools across the country in a bid to curb the spread of Covid whose second wave has led to a spike in Covid cases and deaths.

“Learning Time on Pearl Magic was first launched in May 2021 during the first lockdown. It was a timely platform at a time when students were stuck at home yet some of them were faced with the unfortunate uncertainty surrounding their final exams,” said Colin Asiimwe, the Head of Marketing for MultiChoice Uganda.

“MultiChoice Uganda recognizes that our students find themselves yet again at this same crossroad this year. Which is why we have decided to revive Learning Time on Pearl Magic, to support students achieve their academic outcomes. We know the risks that come with spending a lot of time at home and we hope through these lessons our learners will be able to stay plugged in on the learning process,” Asiimwe added.

Joan Semanda Kizza, the PR and Communications Manager for MultiChoice Uganda said; “We are in the middle of a global pandemic which continues to impact negatively on different aspects of life. As MultiChoice Uganda, we understand that overcoming the challenges we face as a country requires a combined effort including continuous innovation by the private sector. Learning Time is our contribution as a business, towards facilitating education continuity”.

Learning Time is available on Pearl Magic (DStv Family, DStv Access, GOtv Max, GOtv Plus and GOtv Value) on channel 304, and on Pearl Magic Prime (DStv Premium, DStv Compact Plus, and DStv Compact) on channel 148.

The Learning Time slot will remain open until further notice, with the aim to stay on as long as need be to support Uganda’s candidates.
