Uganda’s fast rising singer and songwriter real name Priscilla Zawedde musically known by her stage name Azawi has been arrested in connection with theft of money amounting to Shs51 million from a city tycoon only identified as Amatosi.
We reliably understand that Azawi was apprehended last Friday from Kabalaga together with Swangz Avenue public relations manager Jaylor Birungi and the duo spent three days at Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka.
The pair was grilled over the withdrawal of shs 51 million from Amatosi’s Standard Chartered Bank account through an ATM.
Azawi was later released on Tuesday on Police bond.
The two celebrities were grilled by head of SIU Francis Olugu until a member of the First Family intervened for their release.
According to the statement Azawi recorded at police, the singer landed in trouble and accepted to withdrawing the money through an ATM machine at Shell Kibuye.
On October 14, Azawi through Jaylor Birungi landed on a gig to perform at a birthday party at Amare Palace in Nsambya.
Azawi told Police that she had agreed with the organizer a payment of shs5 million.
While on stage performing, Amatosi whose birthday party she was performing at,became horny and cozy and started fondling her, something that didn’t go well with Jaylor who acted as her manager at the time.
Azawi revealed that after her performance Amatosi said he didn’t have cash but would pay later.
Azawi and Amatosi then headed to Shell Kibuye and where Amatosi ordered her to withdraw “as much cash” as she wanted.
“I first withdrew Shs5m which I worked for. I then withdrew shs 10 million for myself and more 8 million for my brother,” said Azawi.
Azawi also revealed that she stayed with the ATM card for some good time to be able to withdraw all that amount.
The ‘My Year’ songstress also revealed to police that she further withdrew a lot of money which totaled to 28 million and she gave it to Amatosi’s security team which had escorted her to the ATM.
The cash she withdrew totaled to shs51 million.
Azawi, however, told Police that Amataso had not authorized her to give his bodyguards money but they coerced her while holding guns.
