Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) will reveal the winner of Inter-University Smart Drinking Challenge at the grand finale of the competition to be held on Friday 10 December at Kabira Hotel, Bukoto.
The top 15 students from the five participating universities will battle it out for top position as they pitch their ideas to a team of 5 select judges, including Bob Kasiki, Dr Innocent Nahabwe, Cynthia Tumwine Kawamara and Zandile Nqoko.
“It is an honour to take part in this challenge as a judge. I look forward to hearing out young minds come up with solutions to problems that affect them, such as alcoholism,” said Cynthia Tumwine Kawamara.
The top 15 students whose ideas made it to the finals were from Makerere University, Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), Kampala University, Soroti University & Kyambogo University.
“I originally joined the challenge to win the grand prize, but through the mentorship we have undergone, I was inspired to help out the people in my community. My idea is about moderation of alcohol use in communities given that it is sold cheaply at local pubs,” said Joseph Ekellot from Kampala International University.
The Inter-University Smart drinking challenge was launched on 1st September 2021 and has since seen students from Five (5) participating universities battle it out throughout the campaign to make it to the top 100, then top 40 to top 15 who will emerge to the top 3.
“This challenge has been the first project where Nile Breweries Limited has asked the students to come up with their ideas. It has been an exciting experience, and we cannot wait for the finale come Friday!” said Clare Asiimwe, Sustainability Manager at NBL.
The Grand Finale event will be aired live on NBS television and streamed live on our YouTube channel on Friday 10th December 2021 at 5 pm for the general public to view and support their best candidate.
