The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ms Anita Among and the Deputy Attorney General Hon. Jackson Kafuuzi have expressed interest in the speakership race.

Anita sent her personal assistant, Mary Athieno, to pick nomination forms for the Speakership on her behalf from the NRM secretariat at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road. Kafuuzi appeared a few minutes later.

Earlier today, Among signed a condolence book in honor of the late Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.

“This morning I signed the Condolence book in honour of my brother and Leader Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah at Parliament. .We dearly miss you my brother JO! May the Angels welcome you in Glory,” she tweeted.

Currently, only one person has officially expressed interest in the post of speaker.

Last night, Parliament Spokesman Chris Obore dismissed reports that Ms. Among had resigned ahead of the contest, arguing that there is no such legal requirement.

It should be noted that Article 82(4) of the constitution of Uganda provides that subject to Clause (4) of Article 81, “no business shall be transacted in Parliament other than an election to the office of Speaker at any time that office is vacant.”
