All roads will lead to Lake Bunyonyi in Rubanda District for the Shemererwa festival happening from 7th to 10th of April 2023.

Kigezi’s finest perfoming artistes are bringing all their creative arts and talents together as a way to make their contribution on a campaign to fight for sustainable and inclusive development for Bunyonyi Community.

Shemererwa Festival is proud that the youth in that area are not looking at the financial benefit in this cause; all participants have put aside their programs in all their busy schedules to make their contribution in causing impact to their communities.

There will be performances from the finest singers including; Zex Bilangilangi, Amani Amaniga, Shine Omukiga, Tbro, Fact Zamani and Ambroy among others.

Byamugisha Ronnie the brains behind the event told Kampala Sqoop’s Emuk Benjamen that, “This is going to be the first ever festival to be organized in such a remote location with no access to a road network although the peninsula is connected to the mainland, no piped water or electricity and thereby attracting a new wave of revelers who have previously had no opportunity to experience live performances from Kigezi’s local popular artists, Radio and TV personnel in the region.”

The event’s purpose according to Byamugisha, is to address the challenges faced by local people in Kigezi region and mostly those who live in and within Lake Bunyonyi. The Festival is aimed at bringing together the locals and tourism investors who will mix freely and discuss and find solutions to the developmental challenges engulfed in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The organizers also revealed that all the 17 themes of Shemererwa Festival are derived from UN SDG for inclusive Development.

The festival was founded by a group of Kigezi music lovers and mainly organized by The Real Uncle (DJ and presenter at Hills FM radio Kabale).

There will be DJ mixes from top deejays including; Dj Malik pro, Benjamin pro, Selekta Amen, Kita 43, Morris Lux, Tim Davie and Mcees; Sam Wenyine, Austin, and Collino among others.

The event is powered by The Kansiime Foundation, Masters Music, Bush Kitchen, Tania’s re-usable baby diapers,

Smart Tickets and Big beats entertainment among others.

Shemererwa Festival is a multi-day bi annual celebration of life using Tourism, Music and Arts based at Lake Bunyonyi in present day Rubanda District, south western Uganda. The Festival is aimed at promoting the Kigezi culture through tourism, music and art.
