History and heritage came alive today as His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV graced the Pre-Coronation and successfully performed the sacred coronation rituals at the Karuzika Royal Palace. The breathtaking ceremony was a powerful symbol of tradition, unity, and cultural pride for the Tooro Kingdom and its people.
The event marks 30 years of Empango, celebrating the reign of King Oyo who, from a child monarch to a modern-day custodian of heritage, has become an emblem of continuity, resilience, and visionary leadership. His Majesty’s participation in these sacred rites reaffirmed his enduring bond with his people and the rich cultural legacy of Tooro.

The Empango 30th Anniversary is being celebrated through the Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival, organized by Talent Africa Group and proudly sponsored by Pepsi, Uganda Tourism Board(UTB), Capital Radio and Pilsner (UBL). This grand cultural festival is a showcase of heritage, tourism, and entertainment, uniting Ugandans and international visitors in a week-long celebration.
Today’s activities marked the second day of the festivities, which will continue in grand style up to 13th September 2025, featuring cultural performances, royal ceremonies, and celebratory showcases that honor Tooro’s history while inspiring its future.
“This Empango celebration is not just a milestone; it is a living legacy,” said a representative of the organizing committee. “It reflects the strength of our culture, the unity of our people, and the leadership of His Majesty King Oyo.”
The Empango 30th Anniversary stands as both a commemoration of the past and a beacon for the future, reaffirming the Tooro Kingdom’s role as a custodian of heritage and a pillar of Uganda’s cultural identity.
Long live King Oyo. Long live Tooro. Long live our heritage!
