M7 set to Launch Tembo Steels Multi-billion Dollar Iganga Plant

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni is set to officiate at the launch of the new multi-billion dollar Tembo Steels iron-ore and Steels plant in Iganga setting a precedence for them as Uganda’s leading and the “1st of its kind” indigenous Steels plant in the region, the Media has learnt.

According to an official Press statement dated January/14/2025 and issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU),the president’s launch precedes his plans of conducting a tour of the region in-line with he’s programme of he’s Nation-wide Parish development model (PDM) performance assessment tour.

The president’s tour which commences on January 22 2025 will end with he’s tour and much anticipated launch and commissioning of the Mega Steels Giant’s subsidiary in the form of the new Iganga iron-ore plant and expansion.

“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) informs the General public that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda will resume his Nation-wide Parish Development model (PDM) performance assessment tour in Busoga sub-region starting on January 22/2025 and ending on January/25/2025”,read a statement from the Presidential Press Unit (PPU).

“The schedule of the visit will among others include the commissioning of the new Tembo Steels factory in Iganga”,the statement added.

Tembo Steels (U) Ltd was launched in Uganda in 2001 by it’s founder and Chairman Mr Sanjay Awasthri.In 2003 H.E the president officially commissioned their first maiden Steels plant in Lugazi district.The company later on went on to expand it’s scope of Investments to Iganga district setting up their second plant that has now grown through leaps and bounds.

Over the years the company continued investing heavily in the sector and in Uganda hence becoming a house-hold name and leading indegenous brand,producing high quality Ugandan made steel and related products.

Mid last year the company ventured into the production of iron-ore as a replacement for scrapp with the launch of their Iganga based iron-ore plant factory which H.E the President is now set to officially launch/commission.

Last year the Group company also made a huge mile-stone when they announced their latest innovation in the form of the ‘TMX’ re-bars which the Steels Giant launched on the Ugandan market.

Tembo Steels employs over 2000 workers directly and indirectly.The company’s investment port-folio now stands at over 1
