MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited, in partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), has today announced significant enhancements to tax and government payment services available on the MTN MoMo platform, reaffirming its commitment to driving digital inclusion and simplifying access to essential public services for Ugandans.

Launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, the enhanced services are accessible via the official MTN MoMo consumer shortcode under the dedicated URA menu *165*18#,and are now live nationwide. The enhancement expands and improves how taxpayers interact with URA, enabling faster, more convenient and secure payment of taxes and government-related obligations directly from their mobile phones.

The enhanced URA menu is designed to make tax compliance simpler and more accessible by bringing key URA payment services closer to taxpayers, eliminating the need for physical visits to tax offices or banks. This marks a significant step in supporting URA’s digital transformation agenda while leveraging MTN MoMo’s nationwide reach and trusted payments infrastructure.

Speaking at the launch, Richard Yego, Managing Director, MTN MoMo, said the enhancements reflect MTN MoMo’s long-standing role as a reliable digital payments partner for government services.

“MTN MoMo continues to play a critical role in enabling secure, accessible and efficient digital payments across Uganda. By enhancing URA services on *165*18#, we are making it easier for individuals and businesses to meet their tax obligations anytime, anywhere. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to supporting national development through practical and customer-centric digital solutions.”

The Uganda Revenue Authority welcomed the enhancements as a key enabler of voluntary compliance and improved taxpayer experience.

John Musinguzi Rujoki, Commissioner General, Uganda Revenue Authority, noted, “Our goal is to make tax compliance as simple and convenient as possible for all taxpayers. Enhancing URA services on MTN MoMo brings us closer to the people, reduces compliance barriers and supports our broader strategy to digitise tax administration while improving efficiency and transparency.”

With millions of active users across the country, MTN MoMo continues to serve as a trusted platform for everyday payments, financial inclusion and public service delivery. The enhanced URA services further strengthen MTN MoMo’s role in enabling seamless digital interactions between citizens and government.
