NRM’s Lumumba accused of faking covid-19 results to dodge accountability of campaign funds

Intrigue and factions in the ruling National Resistance Movement party is not new – and it is usually related to cash wrangles. Party Secretary General Kasule Lumumba is usually at the centre of these battles and this time she is being accused of falsely declaring that she has contracted Covid -19 to avoid accountability scrutiny for funds of the ongoing campaigns.

Social media has been buzzing with allegations that Lumumba embezzled billions of shillings from the party secretariat and faked the positive virus results and stay in isolation so as to escape audit queries.

Last week, Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga threw a spanner in the works she accused Lumumba of embezzling money meant for youth in the Busoga region. The youth reportedly received Shs150,000 each yet the party budget was Shs250,000.

Lumumba’s eternal foe, Dr. Tanga Odoi who is the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission at the NRM secretariat also has no kind words for Lumumba saying they are on the verge of being evicted from their offices on Plot. 13 Kyadondo Road in Nakasero for non-payment of rent over the past three years.

Unverified reports indicate that Ms Lumumba was given only Shs50 billion to facilitate scientific campaigns but by the time she went into virus isolation at Hotel Africana where she’s reportedly renting, she had run short of cash.

The NRM party national treasurer, Ms Rose Namayanja told journalists in Kampala that Ms Lumumba tested positive on Saturday, six days after she had been in self-isolation following the positive results of her handlers early last week.

Ms Namanyanja explained that Ms Lumumba was negative a week earlier but when her handlers tested positive a week later, the medical practitioners directed her to stay in quarantine until her samples were picked.
