New Uganda Premier League (UPL) entrants, Blacks Power are reported seriously considering any possible means to secure the signature of Ivan Okello this transfer season.

The 2021/22 FUFA Big League Champions want to add a ‘key’ player in defence ahead of their long-awaited debut season in the UPL and Okello, with his versatility combined with his UPL experience is a feasible option.

The Onduparaka defender, regarded as one of the best in that position can also be effectively deployed as a defensive midfielder.

Okello, for two seasons before was at the then Bukedea-based club on loan from Amuka Bright Stars where he ‘made a very big name’s for himself.

Ivan Okello was so impressive for Amuka Bright Stars before joining Blacks Power

Playing in defence and midfield, he was an integral part of the ‘historical 13 commandos’ who guided Blacks Power to the UPL promotional playoffs with only one goalkeeper and just two substitutes.

That season, it was recorded that no centre-back really matched Okello’s excellent game reading mad hard tackling – he was statistically simply the best there was in centre-back, he started being regarded a ‘national team material’.

Blacks Power unfortunately didn’t make it to the UPL that season, and the defender joined the Caterpillars in Arua.

Now that Blacks Power are finally in the UPL and will be hosting their games at Aki Bua Stadium in Lira (where Okello comes from), the Lango Province (FUFA Drum) captain moving back home ‘where it all started’ is most likely.

Blacks Power are yet to publicly declare any interests in any specific new player(s), but the new club CEO, Edison Shaban confirmed that the team will surely have to make some changes to be able to compete in the UPL.

So many changes are taking place in Lira, the coach has already been changed, so will the players. Okello could very soon be announced as a Blacks Power player, and that shouldn’t leave you so surprised.
