Nyege Nyege International Music Festival is back for the 9th edition slated for November 14 to 17th at Jinja Golf Course in Jinja City.
Held at a venue of more than 50 acres, Nyege Nyege festival boasts of more than 5 stages among which include the Main Stage, Tropical, Eternal, Dark Star and Reggae Nyege.
Whereas the other stages have kept their consistency through the years, the Dark Star which explores the more obscure corners of African electronic music and beyond, and Reggae Nyege that is designed for lovers of Ska, Roots Reggae, Reggae Lovers Rock, Dub and Dancehall have not been consistent and revellers who love the experiences these two offer have been complaining.
There was a complaint last year when Dark Stage fans spent the whole night of day 1 looking for it only to be told that it had been conjoined with the Hakuna Kulala stage.
The last time attendees had an experience of the Dark Star and Reggae Nyege stages was at the 7th and 3rd editions in 2022 and 2017 respectively.
However, due to popular demand, the organisers have this year brought back these two stages if the statement on the festival’s official website is anything to go by.
“Back By Popular Demand, the Reggae Stage dubbed “Reggae Nyege” for all the lovers of Roots, Dub, Ska, Dancehall and Reggae and The Dark Star that Will Explore the more obscure corners of African Electronic music and beyond. This year’s edition will feature 7 stages and a secret shack, alongside all the offsite events” – Read the statement.
From the successful 8th edition dubbed “Nyege Wonderland” last year, this year, the fest is dubbed “Afro Galactic Carnival” which is set to introduce a new experience called “Nyege In The City.”
This is a day time program that will show Jinja City life to the rest of the world while offering fun-filled activities like water-based activities on river Nile, fine VIP dining, day time parties, live music, art exhibitions, fashion popups among other things all between 8 AM and 3 PM.
