On monday the 16th of January, rotarians launched DEAR ( drop everything and read) Week as one of the activities of the comprehensive campaign known as Basic Education and literacy Enhancement program ( BELEP).

As part of DEAR launch, the Rotary Club of Kulambiro is currently embarking on activities aimed at supporting Basic Education and literacy in Kulambiro community, starting from Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th January 2023.

Speaking about the program Ms. Anna Kusiima – Oteder, DEAR week team leader and RC kulambiro BELEP officer, cited that the team has received many children of all ages.

“We have received very many enthusiastic children of all age ranges. Thanks to the parents and guardians who have sent these children to us.

We have encouraged these children to always Drop Everything And Read whether at school or at their homes.”

Kusiima revealed that Rotary Club of Kulambiro has a lot of activities lined up for the people of Kulambiro Community most especially school going children.

The two-day activities happening at Perfect Primary School include; silent reading, spelling bee, Art and crafts, games and motivational talks among others

Kusiima encouraged parents and guardians to create home libraries for their children to read from.

Kusiima added, “We shall therefore ask for your involvement in donating children’s books to us.”

According to Rotarian Matovu Festus Freddie, as one of the rotarians, “The DEAR’s sole purpose is to encourage parents and guardians to also improve on the reading culture of their children even when they are out of school.”

Rotary club of kulambiro meets every Sunday for fellowship at Bioviands bar and restaurant in Kulambiro from 5 to 6pm.
