A Local Defense Unit (LDU) personnel suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol, is now nursing wounds after he shot himself.

The bullet he fired out of his gun shattered his mouth, nose, and lower jaw in Agago district and he has been admitted to Dr Ambrozoli Memorial Hospital- Kalongo.

Police have identified the victim as LDU Pte Otim Ayala- who held the rifle Ak-47(56-15534962) that he used to shoot himself.

The incident happened along Kalongo-Wol road in front of the town council.

“He fired two bullets in the air and later shot himself thus shattering his mouth, nostrils & lower part of the jaws,” said a police officer who responded to the shooting.

“He was disarmed and later rushed to hospital (Dr Ambrozoli Memorial Hospital- Kalongo) in critical condition,” said a detective.

He left the bar together with Pte Joe Canamita, all attached to Labwor Dwong army barracks and were deployed at Kalongo Hill Army detach.

The ban on bars businesses has not been lifted, however we continue seeing revellers enjoying the night time like everything is already back to normal.

President Yoweri Museveni closed bars across the country to avert the spread of COVID-19. However, some have been operating clandestinely.
