The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan area are investigating an incident of arson, on a school dormitory at MH Junior School Nabbingo, by an undisciplined pupil aged 11 who was fed up with school.

The headteacher, Nakhaima Aggrey reported the matter to Kakungube Police and they have now gathered some facts.Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga reported that, “On the 04.06.2022 at about 5.48am, a one Muyanja Anani Aramathan, aged 11 and P.4 pupil of MH Junior School Nabbingo, Ituga Cell, Kyengera Town Council, informed his matron Nalwanga Cissy, about a fire outbreak in the dormitory.”

According to Enanga’s revelation and explanation, the messenger is highly believed to be the culprit. He further said, “The matron found when the fire had just started burning the bed of Muyanja but was immediately put out by neighbors and the school staff.”

He further revealed that a matchbox was recovered under Muyanja’s bed. Reliable reports indicated that the young boy was fed up with the school and clearly hated classes. He therefore, wanted to burn the school, so that they could be sent home.

The police spokesperson noted that fires in schools should be avoided at all costs, as they can leave a very negative effect on the educational environment for the pupils and the staff.

He also urged head teachers and school staff to closely watch out for pupils who have a dislike for classes and seek services of counsellors, parents and guardians, to help minimize the risks of such related cases of arson in schools.
