2nd Deputy Prime Minister Ali Kivejinja Succumbs to Covid19

The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, is dead.

The 85-year-old senior presidential advisor to Museveni, succumbed to COVID-19 this Saturday evening at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Kivejinja was recently admitted at Mulago hospital where he was battling diabetes and malaria.

A week ago, rumor had been circulating that Kivejinja succumbed to COVID-19 which was dismissed by Dr Baterana,CEO Mulago Hospital saying he was responding to treatment well and was about to be discharged.

Information Minister Judith Nabakooba also recently dismissed reports that Kivejinja was dead, saying he was “in ICU under care. His blood pressure and sugars are under control.”

She, however Tweeted this evening saying that, “He was a true patriot,a mentor to many and a great man for those that had a chance to interact with him. @GovUganda and @NRMOnline stand with Alhaji Kirunda Kivejinja’s in this time of need.”

Details of his burrial arrangements to follow!
