Morgan Heritage reggae group has tipped Ugandans and all Africans living in Africa and in abroad to unite against wrongdoers and condemn sinful practices including Gender Based Violence among other evils that hinder development in Africa.
The Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae music band while launching their ‘The Homeland’ all time long awaited album, said Africa is a rich continent endowed with rich cultural diversities and natural resources but from the time of colonialism until now, her people are still fighting each other and hate is the order of the day.
The ‘Homeland’ according to the group, is no ordinary albums but one with clear messages highlighting injustices and with suggestions of possible solutions to them. The album is a mixture of different African genres with an end result of a finer Afro-fusion touch.
The band start off their album with ‘Bambulele’ track in which they preach against GBV and amplify the quest for justice to check up wrongdoers, the high-level tune surely sets the album Grammy-winning flowing with every song taking the listener to a different world full of learning and corrections to the regrettable mistakes human beings usually make and often blame them on the devil.
Speaking to journalists in Kampala a head of the album launch and listening party, Memmalatel ‘Mr. Mojo’ Morgan and Peter ‘Peetah’ Morgan (Morgan Heritage band) cited that The Homeland album, an afro-fusion sound music blend, seeks to outline Africa’s everyday problems but it is left of the African brothers and sisters themselves to resolve them and stick to each other.
“In this album, we preach unity and forgiveness and as depicted in our very first song off the album.”
Asked what stands out in ‘Bambulele,’ Morgan Heritage said thus, “Bambulele for us is a serious call to Africans at home and in the diaspora to come together and agree on the unity which will go a long way in preserving and protecting our Mama Africa because we can’t allow her to suffer any longer at the hands of wrong people and evildoers.”
The track according to Mojo, features incredible energy from the Brothers & Sisters Art Organization, a youth led choir based in Cape Town in South Africa who share the rising GBV plight in the country and decide to comfort the victims of the vice smoothly through music.
Describing the song, Mojo said, “it’s a tune in which we take the listeners to an etheric-ancestral level that evokes a soulfulness reaction which I believe is felt not only musically but in the heart. Mojo cited that in each of the lines, they express the guttural pain experienced in the lyrics, which he openly informed that, literally means “They killed my mother, who will I be left with in this world? I am sure she didn’t do anything to them.” as the must hear World Music project of 2023.
Asked why Uganda is one of the album launch stop overs, Morgan Heritage said they were mesmerized by the natural resources Uganda has, extra-ordinary loving people and blessed with talents including Jose Chameleon and Eddy Kenzo among others that made it a sure point to do the Homeland album from.
“We believe it’s because of the abundant natural resources, fertile soils, rich wildlife and good people, is the reason why Uganda is known as the pearl of Africa and we couldn’t talk, rather dedicate the album to Africa and forget Uganda.”
To put more meaning to Mojo and Peter’s statements on why Uganda, it should be noted that track number four of the album Singer Eddy Kenzo is featured in twice in the album including in track number four ‘U Got To (See The World)’ ft. S’Villa and track 21 ‘Long To Be Home.’ The famous band also feature Jose Chameleon in track 10 ‘Ready’ ft. Shatta Wale & RJ the DJ off the ‘Homeland’ album.
The group revealed that the full ‘The Homeland’ album will be released on Friday April 21, 2023. The Homeland star-studded album consists of 21-track collection featuring big names in the music industry across African continent and world over.
The Homeland album according to the outspoken Mojo, is one of a kind they have spent time working tirelessly and is of great significance to the group as they expand their global reach right from the Caribbean to the African Continent and beyond with guest contributions from Uganda’s Jose Chameleon, Big Talent Boss Eddy Kenzo, Shaggy, Shatta Wale, Popcaan, Mádé Kuti, Youssou N’Dour and Beenie Man among others.
After carefully crafting the well curated and mastered afro-fusion tunes, Mojo told Kampala Sqoop’s Emuk Benjamen that they had no time to waste any longer and decided to do semi album launches, backed by listening parties to preach the messages in their tunes with which facilitated to what they termed as the ‘culturally-iconic global promotional tour, with stops in Los Angeles, New York, England, Germany, France, Uganda and Ghana.
And tonight we are in Uganda to share with you guys what we took much of our time cooking just for you and we hope you enjoy it and most importantly, emulate the messages in the songs and put in practice,” said the group before setting Acacia-Kisementi based Cielo lounge ablaze with their magnificent tracks.
Surely, one ought to feel at ease with the rhythmical flow and soulful soothing beats with well and carefully sought and arranged lyrical flow, they are indeed incredible, full of nothing but sense, call it empowerment, quest for a better Africa, one that understand its people and what they exactly want so as to co-exist in harmony!
