Saturday night (Day 3) is always the peak of the Nyege Nyege Festival. It pulls the biggest crowd and hosts some of the biggest acts. Everyone comes in with fresh energy, ready to party through the night and enjoy what different performers bring to each stage and this year was no different.
The night was packed with exciting performances from Al Multaqa Orchestra Band, HHY & Kampala Unit, Arsenal Mikebe, American Grammy-winning DJ Skrillex, and DJ Suuna Ben. But there is always that one act who completely captures the audience and this time, it was DJ Mr. Silverbacks, better known as Apeman.
Apeman stepped on stage a few minutes after 1 AM, following the strong performances from Al Multaqa Orchestra Band, HHY & Kampala Unit, and Arsenal Mikebe. The crowd was already waiting for him, and you could tell from how they were vibing and singing along to the hit songs from different music genres he played.
From the moment he started, it was conspicuous that Apeman had been preparing something special which he finally served with a set that threw the huge crowd at The Portal stage into a frenzy.
His performance kept revellers hooked. At some point, everyone was vibing to every song, no matter their favourite genre, because his transitions were on point. What made his set even better was how he combined emceeing and DJing at the same time.
His set lasted for an hour, but it was worth every second, leaving the crowd wanting even more.
