As a way of celebrating, supporting, and promoting gospel music, Royal Gospel Music Company created the Royal Gospel Music Awards (RGMAs) to appreciate gospel artistes for the effort they put into their music.

For the past three years, the organisers have been awarding local gospel artistes in different categories, and they are set to do it again this year on Friday, December 12th at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

On Wednesday, December 3rd, the 4th edition of the RGMAs was officially launched during a press briefing at Imperial Royale Hotel.

Speaking at the briefing, King of Radio, Wesley—widely known as the Godfather of the Gospel Music Industry in Uganda and CEO of Royal Gospel Music Company—said that gospel artistes are often not paid or appreciated enough. He explained that the awards were created to put a smile on an artiste’s face by giving them something tangible to honour their hard work.

“We wanted to find a way to support and encourage gospel musicians for the work they do every day. Gospel artistes are not paid, yet they continue producing good music. After an artiste has made a beautiful song and invested money, time, and energy, there should be something to show for their effort,” King said.

He also revealed that this year’s awards will be epic, with a state-of-the-art production. For the first time, the event will be hosted by a gospel artiste, Levixone together with media personality and actress Nicole Estella.

Only Ugandan gospel artistes will compete this year in the 53 award categories, unlike previous editions that included nominees from other African countries.

Voting is already ongoing through the Royal Gospel Music mobile app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Tickets can also be purchased on the app at UGX 100,000 (Ordinary), UGX 250,000 (VIP), and UGX 3,000,000 (VVIP).

The RGMAs are happening in partnership with Roke Telecom, ZTE Nubia, JBL Studios, Spirit TV, Pepsi, Euro Gold, Victory Travel Centre, BLACK, Made Of God, and Victoria University.
