Another morning, another tears.
Today, 09/05/2026, at about 5:00am, death came on Maddu–Ssembabule Road.
A Toyota Hiace taxi, number UA 788DJ, was carrying people from Ssembabule to Nakasongola. They were going for a wedding.
It never reached.
At Lumonya village, Gomba District, the driver lost control. Speeding, police say. The taxi overturned several times.
Six people died. Four died on the spot. Two died later in hospital.
Three others are hurt. Fighting for life now.
Police from Kanoni confirmed the crash. Said the taxi was a “drone” heading to Bulemezi when it flipped at Lumanyo.
Same Story, Different Day
How many times?
5:00am. Dark. Road empty. Driver pushes speed. Thinks “I will reach early”.
Then one mistake. One pothole. One swerve.
Then bodies on road. Wedding turns to burial.
Speeding is killing us.
Every week, taxi, bus, boda — same reason. “Driver was rushing.”
Six families today won’t attend wedding. They will plan funerals.
What Must Change Now
First, passengers must speak. If driver is flying, shout. Tell him “slow down”. Better late than dead.
Second, traffic police must stop these dawn taxis. 5am, no traffic officers on road. Drivers know it. So they speed.
Third, wedding organizers — hire coasters with two drivers for long trips. Don’t pack 18 people in Hiace to save money. Life is costly than fuel.
Last Word: Roads Don’t Kill, Speed Does
UA 788DJ left Ssembabule with smiles.
It ended in Lumonya with silence.
If you’re travelling tonight, tell driver “we are not in rally”.
Because at 5am, no hospital is near. No ambulance is fast.
Only death is waiting when speed takes wheel.
Rest in peace to the six.
Quick recovery to the three.
And to all of us — slow down.
That’s all
