After noise, after tension, after long night — Kyambogo has a new guild president.
His name: H.E Agaba Edward.
The number: 22nd.
The course: Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Building Engineering.
He was declared winner early Saturday morning, 09/05/2026, when the electronic voting system finally gave results.
It was not smooth. It was turbulent. But now it’s done.
How The Night Went
Well, Kyambogo elections are never quiet.
Camps shouting. Agents arguing. Screens freezing. Students waiting in Banda, in halls, in hostels — phones in hand. “Who is leading?”
This year, e-voting was used. Some said “it will be clean”. Others said “system will be hacked”.
For hours, no clear winner. Tension rising. WhatsApp groups on fire.
Then morning came. Results out. Edward Agaba, UYD flag bearer, takes it.
Congratulatory messages started flying. “Your leadership, service, and dedication inspire us all.” “The Club is proud to stand with you.”
Now the real work starts.
Why An Engineer? Why Now?
Kyambogo is not Makerere. It’s not politics-first.
This is a university of engineers, teachers, surveyors, vocational minds. Students want water in halls. They want working lifts in Senate. They want internship placements, not just speeches.
Agaba is Civil Engineering student. He understands buildings. Roads. Systems.
Maybe students are tired of “politicians”. Maybe they want “builder”.
One second-year from Faculty of Engineering told me, “Ssebo, we voted Agaba because he talks like us. He knows our lab has no cement for practicals. He knows our allowances delay. Let’s see if he can fix.”
Another girl from Faculty of Arts said, “But can engineer also fight for allowances? For marks? For freedom? Guild is not only about buildings.”
That’s the test for H.E Agaba.
The Turbulent Part Nobody Forgets
Let’s be honest. “Turbulent election process” is Kyambogo language for “things nearly went wrong”.
Delays. System glitches. Agents clashing. Allegations of voter bribery in hostels.
Some students slept without voting. Some voted twice, system rejected.
But in the end, electronic voting held. No stones. No teargas. That alone is win for Kyambogo.
Still, Agaba inherits a divided house.
The loser’s camp is quiet now. But they are watching. One mistake, they will say “we told you”.
What Kyambogo Students Want From H.E Agaba
First, toilets. Go to some halls. You will cry. Guild president is not Minister of Health, but he can shout.
Second, internship. Civil Engineering students finish without site experience. Agaba is one of them. He knows pain. Now connect students to SBI, to Stirling, to government projects.
Third, fees. Surcharge system is killing parents. Can guild negotiate? Can guild propose payment plans?
Fourth, unity. UYD won, but FDC, NRM, independents also voted. Guild office is not party office. It’s for all Banyoro, Baganda, Acholi, everyone.
Fifth, peace. Last guild fights ended in suspensions. Kyambogo needs class time, not strikes.
The Bigger Picture: 2026 And Student Politics
This is not just Kyambogo thing.
2026 general elections are done. What of years to come general elections. Parties are testing ground in universities. Only local council elections left. UYD win at Kyambogo sends message.
But students are smarter now. They don’t vote party only. They vote person.
If Agaba delivers, UYD gets credit. If he fails, they say “UYD gave us engineer who can’t lead”.
So pressure is real.
Last Word: From Ballot To Building
Agaba Edward wanted guild seat. Now he has it.
Campaign posters will fade. WhatsApp noise will die.
What remains?
Water in taps. Lights in halls. Results on time. Respect from admin.
Well, being 22nd guild president is not about title. It’s about “what did you build?”
He studied Civil Engineering. Now Kyambogo is his site.
If he constructs trust, he wins.
If he constructs excuses, students will demolish him next year.
Congratulations, H.E Agaba Edward.
Kyambogo is waiting.
Not for speeches.
For work.
That’s all.
