The Kabanda Problem: Why PLU’s Secretary General May Not Survive 2026

From Speaker’s breakfast table to political pariah? The accusations against David Kabanda are piling up, and PLU insiders say the unmasking has already started.

Uganda politics has a pattern.

You rise fast, you make enemies faster, and one day someone stands up with a microphone and tells the story you never wanted to be told.

That day might be coming for David Kabanda, Kasambya MP and Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda.

The trigger was the Speaker race. But the real problem is older than that.

What Was Said

In a recent video, former Parliamentary Commissioner and Zombo Woman MP Esther Afoyochan made serious claims against Kabanda.

She said Kabanda betrayed Speaker Anita Among’s trust. That he was always at the Speaker’s residence for breakfast, lunch, sometimes supper. Sometimes he even slept there.

She said he knew every secret of the Speaker’s office. That he pushed away close friends of the Speaker. That he even impregnated one of the house helps.

She also said Kabanda positioned himself as the link between the Speaker and Gen Muhoozi. That at one point the Speaker wanted to help him become Parliamentary Commissioner, but President Museveni blocked it because he realized Kabanda had duped him before.

Her words: “he’s a conman”.

Well, these are heavy words. And whether they are 100% true or not, they are now public.

Why This Matters Now

Kabanda’s problem isn’t just the Speaker race.

Yes, he signed the PLU letter withdrawing support for Among and Tayebwa’s Speakership endorsement. Yes, people now call him “Judas Iscariot” for that.

But according to PLU sources, the plan to unmask him was already in motion before that letter.

The Speaker saga just added salt to the soup. It gave his enemies a reason and a platform.

In Uganda, we all know how it goes. If you have dirty deals, someone is keeping receipts. And when the time is right, they come out.

What Happens When He’s Unmasked

If the allegations are investigated and proven, even partially, three things happen fast:

One: He loses moral authority in PLU.

You cannot lead a movement that claims to fight for discipline and accountability while carrying these kinds of accusations.

Two: Gen Muhoozi distances himself.

Gen Muhoozi has already defended Kabanda publicly. But political protectors move fast when the cost becomes higher than the benefit. If PLU starts bleeding members because of one man, the chairman will act.

Three: His political career stalls.

Kasambya is not safe if the narrative becomes “Kabanda the conman”. Even NRM will think twice before fronting him again.

The Plot Inside PLU

Talk in Naguru is that there are already plans to sideline him from within.

Some PLU officials feel Kabanda uses Gen Muhoozi’s name to settle personal scores and build his own network. They say he creates enemies for the movement while pretending to be the only loyal soldier.

The plan is simple: collect evidence, leak it quietly, let public pressure do the work.

If Gen Muhoozi condemns him publicly before the end of this year, that will be the signal that the end has come.

The Judas Label

The “Judas” tag is sticking because of the timing.

Kabanda was asked to read the PLU ruling on the speakership. He says it wasn’t his personal position, just a message to pass.

But in politics, the messenger becomes the message.

By reading it, he became the face of the betrayal. And betrayal is a sin Uganda voters don’t forgive easily.

Why Enemies Are Everywhere Now

Kabanda’s style is the problem.

He talks big. He moves fast. He creates conflict, then claims he’s fighting for Gen Muhoozi.

But in the process, he has made enemies across the political sphere. NRM old guards don’t trust him. Opposition sees him as a spoiler. Even some PLU members think he’s using the movement for personal gain.

When you have that many enemies, one accusation is enough to start a fire.

The Ordinary vs Elite View

For the elite in Kampala, this is about control of PLU money and access to Gen Muhoozi.

For the ordinary person, it’s simpler: we are tired of leaders who eat from every table and leave us with nothing.

If the accusations about manipulating the Speaker and exploiting staff are true, it confirms what many already believe about Kampala politics: it’s all a con.

What’s Likely to Happen

I don’t think Kabanda will be removed tomorrow. PLU needs stability before the 12th Parliament settles.

But the writing is on the wall.

The unmasking will continue. More people will speak. More stories will come out.

And when Gen Muhoozi feels PLU is more damaged with Kabanda inside than outside, he will drop him.

Public condemnation before December 2026 is very possible.

The Bigger Lesson

This is Uganda.

We love fast rise, big talk, and close access to power. But we forget that power doesn’t protect you forever.

Kabanda’s case will be a lesson for every young politician:

Don’t think access means you are untouchable.

Don’t think loyalty is one way.

And don’t think secrets stay secret forever.

Because in Uganda, when they decide to unmask you, they don’t hold back. And you go with shame.

Last Word

Kabanda’s fate will not be decided by Twitter or WhatsApp.

It will be decided in closed rooms in Naguru and Entebbe.

But the groundwork is being laid now. The enemies are organized. The stories are out.

And once Gen Muhoozi decides the cost is too high, it will be over.

The only question is when.
