NRM compensates victims of Party primary elections fracas in Katakwi

The NRM Secretariat has come to support the family of the woman who was shot dead and those who were injured during the NRM party primaries in Kapujan, Katakwi district.

The Secretary General of NRM Kasule Lumumba, who was representing the party Chairperson and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday during the burial of Teresa Akiror donated 20m shillings cash to the bereaved families and also started the construction of three permanent houses for the victims.

On Friday NRM polls, fracas ensued between the aspirants, the LC5 Chairperson Walter Elakus Okiring and the incumbent MP Joseph Andrew Koluo supporters in which the security personnel, LDUs got involved resulting into shooting.

Lumumba condemned the act saying such incidents should not happen if the aspirants did not have got involved. As NRM we don’t encourage violence elections.

Lumumba asked the mourners that NRM party will ensure that justice prevails for the victims and assured the people that the party was already attending and footing medicals of the 2 injured, Lucy Apenyo and Charles Etiang 21, who are being treated at Nakasero hospital, Kampala.

Those who attended the burial included the State minister for ICT and National Guidance Peter Ogwang, Teso affairs Minister Agnes Akiror, Toroma county MP Joseph Andrew Koluo among other dignitaries.

Ogwang, who met all the burial expenses for the late Teresa Akiror described the incident as unfortunate but asked the mourners to continue supporting the party despite the challenges.

The late Teresa Akiror 69, is survived with 14 children, 12 grandchildren and widower Mzee Engwou Gaudesio in his late 70s
