Police at Soroti Central Police Station have confirmed that at least seven people in Soroti city have been killed by homicide in a period of just one month of February.
The shocking figures have been attributed to the tense political atmosphere and elections aftermath and land disputes.
The homicide detective at Central Police Station in Soroti, Joseph Isaac Odeke says out of the seven bodies, five were murdered between early days of February and Two were killed a week ago in Soroti City.
On Thursday last week a man identified as Moses Otim a lorry driver was found dead left at the roadside at Opuyo, had bruises on his body. On the same day another unidentified man was found already starting to decompose in the bush in Asuret.
Odeke says the numbers of death has exposed the security, explaining that the month of February is worse compared to the previous month of January where police recorded only two cases of homicide involving the Boda-Boda cyclist and an Arab National.
“The unknown killings have become rampant which mostly happened at the wee hours, we are wondering as Police what the motive behind,” says Odeke.
He says Police have already launched Investigations over these circumstances. Police are yet to arrest any suspects.
Meanwhile Paul Omer, the Soroti City Mayor says security in the city has been compromised accusing some police of alleged conniving with criminals to distort evidence.
Omer wonders why police up to now have not arrested any suspect, saying he has written to Regional Police Commander East Kyoga and RDC the head of security to call for an emergency security meeting.
