Renowned Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan has chartered with the Rotaract Club of Cavendish University.

The celebrations were officially held at Fairway Hotel as a way of welcoming the club into the Rotary Fraternity after getting approval from Rotary International.

The club is institutional based and will have 23 charter members with Williams Rotowa being the very first President of the club.

 Rotaract Clubs can exist on their own or be sponsored by Rotary and or Rotaract Clubs and for this case Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan is the sponsoring club or Mother Club for Rotaract Club of Cavendish University.

 Speaking during the launch, Rotarian Emmanuel Muwonge cited that the Charter is aimed at imparting in students leadership skills and service above self among others.

Cavendish University being a leading private university, having a rotary club has been a major role and the goals in that one is going to explore the university and will enable the students offer services to the community.”

Muwonge said that, “many of the Rotarians are lawyers and therefore we do free services at Naguru go down where there are many crime rates.”

He added, “we have also had a health camp project where people come and access medical services free of charge, with help of Doctors from Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan.”

Other services include barber shops, free HIV tests and now Covid19 tests.

Asked what it takes for one to be a charter member, Muwonge revealed that the membership fees for the students were fully paid in by the mother Club, Kampala Metropolitan.

“All these people have to pay is just 50k for subscription fees which is quite affordable.”

Denis Mudola President of Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan explained that, “with this merger rather charter, we anticipate continuity of dedicated values of Rotary with core being service above self.”

Rotaract clubs are service clubs for young people of ages 18 and above dedicated to finding innovative solutions to pressing challenges in the communities within the 7 areas of focus while developing leadership skills and making friends around the world.

Rotary’s Seven areas of focus include Peace and Conflict resolution,Disease prevention and treatment,Water and Sanitation,Maternal and child health,Basic Education and literacy,Economic and Community Development and Supporting the environment among others.

The event saw some of the top names in Rotary including Rotarian Ronald Mulindwa District Youth Service Chair,Rotarian Marion Natukunda District Youth Exchange officer, Rotarian Franscisco Semwanga District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) D9214, Rotarian Ronald Kawaddwa District Membership Chair and Rotarian Jakob Ssendawula Past District Rotaract Representative (PDRR) among others.
