On Friday, August 27, Alliance Franchise de Kampala (AFK), French Embassy in Uganda together with its partners launched Uganda’s first scull bowl skate park aimed at promoting the new sport in this country.
Parents and guardians of the children involved in the sport, are grateful to the founder and his entire team since it has helped to gather and keep the children busy and occupied during the lock down.
Paul Mugambe, Mayor Nakawa Division expressed gratitude for the fact that the sport was being recognised by France which will go a long way in uplifting talent in young people.
Mugambe revealed that the skating has given the children chances to put their talents forward and as well helped keep the children busy from doing drugs among other ill activities.
” As you have seen we have alot of talent and the place has given them hope and chance not to involve in other funny activities like drugs, alcohol, theft among others risky behaviours.”
He added that,”in 2024, we shall have Olympics games in France and your coming here is a sure ticket that the team makes it to these competitions and as the local leaders,we shall make it possible so that the boys and girls make it to the pretigious sports that was recently included.”

Jackson Mubiru, founder of Skate Park Kitintale expressed his delight after seeing all his guests around and thanked them for sticking around.

He noted that it has been possible because he works closely with the local leaders, community and security, before appreciating all the parents who have given him their children who are the future of the sport.
He also called upon other players to come on board and support the work since he has done his part of initiating such a great facility in the slums of Kitintale.
Jean -Piere Hasperue, first counsellor from the French embassy who was the chief guest revealed that what he saw was beyond his expectation since he was told that they started with only one skate board.
“This facility will inspire the community to rise beyond today and it is the best gift to them and country. My hope is to see some of them participate one day in the Olympics games especially since the next one will take place in France,”Hasperue said.
The Kitintale skate park was started in 2005 and has been an iconic arena for talented young people out there and the addition of Scull bowl dazzling with awesome artistic grafitti from Xenson and Dark Vapor has given it that glow it deserves.
