Andrew Mwenda Joins NUP, To Challenge Bobi Wine In Party Primaries

Veteran journalist and staunch Bobi Wine critic, Andrew Mwenda has officially joined People power’s National Unity Platform.

Mwenda, claims he wants to “ensure there is democratic contest in these parties.

Bobi Wine has remained unchallenged so far for the NUP’s flag, but insists the window is still open for those who intend to challenge him for the flag.

Mwenda on Friday morning registered himself as a NUP member and formally secured nomination forms for the race.

“This morning I went to the headquarters of the National Unity Platform NUP, registered as a member and paid; got all this paraphernalia and picked forms to run as presidential candidate for NUP,” he said in a video shared on social media.

“In the primaries of NUP where they had anointed Bobi Wine as the sole presidential candidate just like NRM, I want to challenge him so that there is democratic contest in these parties.”

The NUP and People Power spokesperson Joel Senyonyi said Mwenda was welcome to contest under the new party.
