President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday met the National COVID-19 Taskforce to discuss how to implement the second lockdown as was suggested earlier by some government officials to the President.

Out of yesterday’s meeting, we have learnt that it was agreed to open airport and borders on October 1, 2020.

Among the other resolutions passed in the meeting, is to allow foreign tourists to come to Uganda with a COVID-19 free Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) certificate valid for 72 hours in a bid to confirm their health status.

In the same vein, it was agreed to drop Kampala 2nd lockdown proposal and decided to create a special lane for ambulances that will be escorted by police in the Kampala incase of an emergency.

In addition, COVID-19 regulations will be strictly enforced with penalties including community work and fines.

Furthermore, it was agreed that final year medical students will be allowed to complete their academics as the Ministry of Education and Health continue to study the possibility of opening other schools.

It was also agreed that church services of maximum seventy people be allowed to open.

Meanwhile, private gyms were also allowed operate while public gyms and bars remained closed.

All the above were agreed yesterday in a National COVID-19 meeting that was held at state lodge Nakasero yesterday and we have since learnt that all the above new developments on COVID-19 prevention will be officially announced through President’s speech after NRM primary elections to be held on September 5, 2020, saturday this week.
