Centenary Bank set to Host Webinar on Starting Business with Non-Financial Resources
Centenary Bank, Uganda’s leading commercial microfinance bank, is set to host its 2nd CenteThoughts, a new thought-leadership forum on the Tuesday 27th July 2021 to empower the youth in Uganda with valuable startup business knowledge in an effort to inspire them to own and operate successful businesses.
The forum themed; “How Youth can Start Business with Non-Financial Resources,” will happen on Zoom and the bank’s Facebook page starting at 10:00 am.
Speakers at the webinar will include; Mr. CK Japheth, Team Leader, The Innovation Village, Mr. Michael Jjingo, General Manager Commercial Banking at Centenary Bank, and Ms. Christine Turamuhawe, Founder CJay Home Solutions Limited. “CenteThoughts” will be moderated by Mr. Solomon Serwanjja, the BBC Komla Dumor Award Winner and News Anchor at NBS Television.
Announcing the forum, Beatrice Lugalambi, the General Manager Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank said, the upcoming edition of CenteThoughts is designed to inspire youth in Uganda and beyond to think proactively and creatively. “This engagement will give them hope, enable them to expand their horizons, and get them to innovate without limitations, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Lugalambi said,” urging everyone, especially the youth to attend in order to learn something from the discussion.
“The youth are Uganda’s future generation and they play a big role in renewing and refreshing the current status of our society through leadership, innovation and business, among other important aspects. It is important that we provide platforms that can involve them in learning and decision making for their benefit and transformation,” she added.
According to the Uganda’s National Youth Policy, a youth is a person aged between 18 and 30 years. The Statistical Abstract 2020 report by Uganda Bureau of Statistics projected the youth population in Uganda to be at 53 per cent in 2020 in comparison to the total population which is estimated to be above 47 million people. During the recently read National Budget for the Financial Year 2021/22, the Government of Uganda allocated UGX 165 billion to support the implementation of 21,000 projects under the Youth Livelihoods programme for 247,700 youth.
CenteThoughts is therefore expected to bring together a sizable number of youth online, to participate with the aim of sensitizing them on viable non-capital resources they can leverage to start their businesses.
