Ugandan films have made strides, though, over the years, the audience has continuously blasted local films over uninteresting story themes.

Many claimed the films were either too sad or preachy in a way. Which makes the new Bodastories production film, Nkinzi, a big deal; it is a good feel film about three children from different backgrounds.

Nkinzi is a heartwarming tale of resilience, family and the power of human connection.

Written and directed by Rehema Nanfuka (Beloved, Veronica’s Wish), Nkinzi is a story of the eight year old Nkinzi who runs away from home during her parents’ many fights. She ends up rescued by a ghetto boy called Junior and his sister Princess, together they help Nkinzi find her way back home.  Nkinzi’s family rediscovers their love for each other.

The film’s stars a formidable cast including Debbi Bakuseka (Beloved, Mama and Me), Moses Senabulya (Beloved) Hasifah Nande (DamaLie), Renez Mable (Beloved), Lumumba Patrick Lubowa, Agnes Kebirungi (Bed of Thorns, Mistakes Gals Do) and introducing TikTok sensation Baby Passion Kisakye and Walusimbi Simon Peter.

Rehema Nanfuka gained much acclaim as an actress, appearing in groundbreaking films and TV dramas such as Imperial Blue, The Girl in The Yellow Jumper, Imani, Kafa Coh and Yat Madit among others. However, she took a step back and started honing a skill behind the camera, since, she has gone on to direct Veronica’s Wish, becoming the first woman to win Best Director at the annual Uganda Film Festival.

She later directed Prestige, a two time winning Best TV Drama and Beloved, both for Pearl Magic Prime. With Nkinzi, she partners with Aida Nalubowa, founder of Africa Theatre Magazine and both co-founders of Bodastories, as executive producers.

Bodastories is committed to telling everyday life Ugandan stories and invites everyday people to enjoy cinema that is about them. Nkinzi will premiere at Wonder World Auditorium on December 14.
