Bobi Wine’s election petition withdrawal takes new twist
SHARE

The winner of the 14th January general election Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss with cost the election petition filed by his political rival Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi challenging his victory.

Through his lawyers of Kiryowa and Karugire advocates, Museveni maintains that he was validly elected in a free and fair election that was conducted in accordance with all electoral laws and the constitution.

Museveni further states Kyagulanyi’s petition is bad in law in that it was filed out of the prescribed 15 days after the declaration of the election results on 16th January 2021.

According to Museveni, the allegations of confrontation, blockage from campaigning, and assault of Ugandans during the electoral period were occasioned by wrongful and lawful conduct of Kyagulanyi in defying laws and election guidelines.

Museveni denies allegation by Kyagulanyi that election guidelines were enforced selectively and using abusive language against him.

Museveni also agreed with AIGP Edward Ochom that Police and army was deployed in the town’s and villages to secure peace during the conduct of election.

According to the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo nine Supreme Court Justices are set to hear Kyagulanyi’s petition and pre hearing kicks off on Thursday, February 11th.
