Two suspects were on Tuesday April 23, arrested for attempted robbery at Equity Bank, Soroti branch in Eastern Uganda.
The armed robbers according to police, stormed the bank on Tuesday morning and held security guards hostage at the bank.
However, police responded immediately and over powered the robbers who are said to be a one guard and his supervisor. The two were arrested for attempted robbery and are already in police custody in soroti police headquarters.
The incident brought business to a standstill as most of the roads adjacent to the bank were sealed off by the police as the military personnel tried to restore normalcy.
Equity Bank Uganda Limited issued a statement following the incident, saying, “Kindly note that we had a distress incident today morning at our Soroti branch where armed robbers attempted to gain access into the banking hall. No property or lives were damaged or lost.
Security agents led by local authorities are currently investigating the incident. Normal banking services have resumed. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for understanding,” reads the statement.
