The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, has been injured in a scuffle with police.
The incident occurred in Bulindo, Wakiso district on Tuesday afternoon.
NUP alleged in a brief statement on X platform that “security operatives have made an attempt on life of Bobi Wine,” adding, “He was shot in the leg and seriously injured in Bulindo, Wakiso.”
NUP did not provide evidence to back up its claims.
Police issued a statement saying it all started with Bobi being invited by Mr George Musisi (Lawyer), to a Thanksgiving ceremony in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.
“Hon. Kyagulanyi participated in the celebration, which concluded peacefully,” said Police.
“When Hon. Kyagulanyi left the venue, he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town; however, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession,” the law enforcement body added.
“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries.”
Police officers at the scene claim Bobi stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot.
Police said an investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts.
Photos and videos from the scene show Bobi being helped by his close associates to walk down the stairs of a storied building.
Small droplets of blood oozed out of his leg.
Police said Bobi was taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.
“The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents,” police emphasized.
Bobi sustained life-threatening injuries after being severely beaten by the presidential guard in Arua in 2018.
The presidential protection forces accused Bobi Wine’s crew of stoning President Museveni’s motorcade, a claim he denied.
