Uganda is reeling from the sudden death of Rajiv Ruparelia, 35, heir to the Ruparelia Group empire, who perished in a horrific road crash early Saturday.
Rajiv’s iconic Nissan GTR—known in motorsport circles as “Godzilla” for its incredible speed—smashed into unmarked pavement barriers at the Busabala Flyover near Kibiri Junction at approximately 1:54 AM. The impact caused the car to overturn and ignite, killing him on the spot.
Eyewitness Frank Mwesigye, who arrived minutes later, voiced anger over unsafe road conditions. “This was entirely preventable,” Mwesigye said. “The barriers were invisible at night, with no warning signs. It’s a death trap waiting to happen.”
The businessman was reportedly returning from a private function in Kajjansi and headed toward Munyonyo when the crash occurred. His death has rocked Uganda’s business and social communities, where he was widely admired for his entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropy through the Ruparelia Foundation.
The accident has reignited fierce debate over road safety and infrastructure accountability, with many calling for an immediate review of the Busabala Flyover’s safety measures.
Rajiv Ruparelia’s legacy as a dynamic leader and community supporter will be remembered long after this tragic loss.
