The Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances under which a newly recruited Special Police Constable committed suicide by setting himself ablaze.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate identified the deceased as Abeireho Lovis a resident of Nyakatare cell Western Ward Kanungu Town Council in Kanungu District.
It’s alleged that on the 13th February 2021 he developed family problems with the wife that led to throwing him out of her house since it was hers.
Maate said that yesterday evening near their home, Abeireho poured petrol into himself and set himself ablaze but residents tried rescue him and rushed him to Katate Health centre IV in Kanungu Town.
He was later in the evening referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital but unfortunately, on their way around Kambuga, he was pronounced dead.
Maate said that since the deceased parents were formally residents of Rukiga district but migrated to Kyegegwa district in Tooro Region, the ambulance directly conveyed the body to Kyegegwa where postmortem will be done from.
The case has been registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under reference No SD 13/16/02/2021 to help in Investigations.
