The Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Kampala (DRCC) in charge of Nakawa Division, Mr. Burora Herbert Anderson, has ordered for the closure of Shoprite Lugogo and Forest Mall for flouting the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the President to curb the spread of the pandemic.

In a letter dated July 13th 2021, Burora ordered the two establishments to close operations with effect from Wednesday July 14th.

The Deputy RCC said that he had issued prior warnings through discussions with both the management of Forest Mall and Shoprite, but the two did nothing in line with regards to what was discussed.

The DRCC’s letter stated several conditions that were required of the two business centers to fulfill before they could be re-opened.

“All financial institutions that operate within to reopen, shall prove that they have provided transport to their workers and that they have put in place all standard operating procedures as guided by the president and the Ministry of Health.”

“Private cars shall not be allowed into the premises a part from those that identify with essential services provided within the premises.”

Regarding restaurants, Burora said that; “All restaurants are required to prove social distancing measures as opposed to the existing arrangement.”

“Pharmacies will be open upon workers identifying themselves,” he added.

The management of the facility has since been advised to notify their tenants of the closure and for them not to turnup until the set conditions are met.
