Since its origin in France in 1982, World Music Day—Fête de la Musique—has grown into a global celebration of rhythm, melody, and cultural unity. Uganda joined the worldwide festivities in 2014, and every June 21st since, the nation has embraced the day with increasing energy and artistic flair.
This year’s edition, held at the lush Sheraton Gardens in Kampala, was nothing short of magical. The venue transformed into a pulsating haven of sound, poetry, and culture—drawing together a lively mix of local and international music lovers.
From the moment the first note rang out, the night was a celebration of diversity and harmony. The crowd was swept away by a star-studded lineup that featured some of Uganda’s most celebrated talents, including Ykee Benda, Zex Bilangilangi, Ebrahim Soul’o, Blac Queen, Andereya Baguma, Professor Joewi, and the experimental sonic collective Black Wave Sounds, among others.
Ykee Benda delivered a powerful set, seamlessly blending his classic hits with new releases—each track sparking waves of nostalgia and renewed excitement. His showmanship had the entire audience on their feet, singing along from start to finish.
Bringing his signature energy to the stage, Zex Bilangilangi lit up the night with dancehall anthems like Parte Yaani, Ratata, Time Yo, and Nalinda—turning the garden into a full-blown party zone.
More than just a concert, the event showcased poetry, cultural exhibitions, and a shared love for the arts. It was a rich cultural tapestry that highlighted Uganda’s creative spirit while echoing the global essence of World Music Day.
Organized by Talent Africa Group, the evening served as a powerful reminder of music’s unique ability to connect hearts, transcend language, and bring communities together—making it not just a night to remember, but a soul-stirring tribute to the universal language of music.
