Tycoon Bitature speaks out on his health condition after taking the Covid-19 vaccine
Business tycoon Patrick Bitature who is the chairman of Simba Group has slammed purveyors of conspiracy theories and myths related to the Covid-19 vaccines.
The business tycoon who is a member of the committee and representative of Uganda’s Private Sector was among the first five Ugandans to be vaccinated.
Bitature confirmed on Twitter that he received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“I have not had the slightest adverse effect, not a headache or pain in my arm,” he Tweeted.
The business tycoon got covid-19 jab as part of the first phase of the nationwide vaccination drive.
The first phase of the mass COVID-19 vaccination drive began on March 10.
In a statement, Mr. Bitature called on Ugandans to discard the many conspiracy theories and myths being circulated on social media platforms.
“It is wise and safe to register for the vaccine being administered free of charge to all living in Uganda, expatriates and refugees inclusive,” he added.
Uganda on March 10 rolled out a coronavirus vaccination exercise in phases after the country received the first shipment of the AstraZeneca vaccines on March 5.
Governments is hoping that vaccines will clear the path to a return to normal, more than a year into the pandemic that has plunged the world into a devastating recession and subject much of humanity to some sort of anti-virus restrictions.
AstraZeneca’s shot, among the cheapest available, was billed as the vaccine of choice for poorer nations and the clot reports have had an impact beyond Europe.
The first 864,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine that been secured courtesy of the COVAX facility, arrived in the country on the 5th of March 2021. COVAX allocated 3,552,000 doses to Uganda. The remaining doses are expected in the country by June 2021.
Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, who was the first Ugandan to take the jab, outlined the schedule to be followed in administering the vaccine, starting with the health workers – both in public and private facilities – and all their support personnel, numbering to 150,000.
The health workers will be followed immediately by security personnel of all categories numbering to 250,000.
Teachers and staff in all education institutions – public and private not-for-profit, as well as private for-profit will follow and these are estimated to have 550,000 persons.
The next category to get the vaccines will be the essential service workers who interact with many people by the nature of their work. Thereafter all persons aged 50 years and above in the country will the vaccinated. These are about 3.3 million in number.
