We Want Fik Gaza Released with Immediate Effect- UMA Barks

The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has condemned the arrest of Ugandan dancehall singer real name Shafiq Dangote well known by his stage name as ‘Fik Gaza’ in Saudi Arabia.

 

“Mr. Gaza, a valued member of our association, was reportedly arrested on Tuesday of this week over alleged visa irregularities and dress code violations,” said UMA in a statement on Thursday morning.

 

Fik Gazaa is a Ugandan musician who embarked on his professional music career in 2018 with songs like ‘Digida,’ ‘Wanika Ebango’ and ‘Omwana Oyo.’

The reason behind the ‘Banana’ hitmaker’s arrest still remains unclear, However, Ugandans are usually arrested in the Middle East over illegal possession of drugs, overstay and fraud.

 

“We are deeply concerned about Mr. Gaza’s well-being and urge the Saudi authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and ensure his safe return home,” said UMA.

 

According to our sources, the Ugandan officials were on Thursday busy working on calls one after the other to investigate the situation.

 

One of the Foreign Affairs Ministry officials said, “We are cross checking.” adding, “We want to see if he requested consular services.”

 

UMA called upon the Ugandan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to take immediate steps to intervene.

 

“We urge them to engage the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda and the Permanent Mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh to secure Mr. Gaza’s release,” said UMA.

 

“Furthermore, we request Uganda’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Ssemuddu, to personally intervene and advocate for Mr. Gaza’s rights. UMA stands in solidarity with Mr. Gaza and his family during this difficult time. We urge all relevant authorities to work collaboratively to secure his safe return.”
