As the 2021 general elections draw closer, the office of the electoral commission in Bukedea district has nominated a total of 19 candidates to contest for the parliamentary seats of Bukedea County and Kachumbala County.

Raymond Kisarale, the Bukedea district returning officer confirmed this development saying that out of the 22 candidates registered, only 3 candidates were nominated under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). This include incumbents Ikojo John Bosco, Among Anet Anita and Patrick Isiagi Opolot who will both head to the ballots to retain their seats for Bukedea County and Kachumbala County respectively.

For Kachumbala County, Independents Tom Okelloto and David Stephen Omagor will be battling to uproot incumbent, Isiagi.

In Bukedea, George Ekuma, who was the Bukedea district Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2016 and lost to Ikojo in the 2016 elections once again lost to the same candidate in the recently concluded NRM primary elections and now comes back again as an independent to try and oust the same person. Others vying for the same post include National Unity Platform’s Stephen Ekoom, Obilan Abubakar, Omoding Peterson, Emasit Daniel Osuret, Kenneth Eyatu, FDC’s Sam Oita Odeke and Henry Aleko.

On the side of women, incumbent Anita will be tussling it out with the new kids on the block; Malinga Sophie, Jessica Asio, Mary Eveline Akongot, Mary Gorete Kitaka, Naume Ekenare, and Ketty Akello.

However, 3 candidates were not nominated due to irregularities in their academic papers and court cases. These include, FDC’s Hellen Akol Odeke, Merab Amongin and Akello Christine Akur.

Dea Natukunda the regional supervisor for electoral commission, Teso sub county region said the nomination of the candidates ended up peacefully.
